The OnCourse Site provides activities to help you plan your course.

for Wednesday's session, could a discussion about how zoom could be used for testing be held?
Lisa N Melohusky
18:11
To register for any of these courses go to the PDC Site: https://pdc.fredonia.libcal.com/calendar?cid=7634&t=d&d=0000-00-00&cal=7634&inc=0

hi Mike, do we have any tips or info on how frequently students check their fredonia email? do they log in when they have to send an email or on a regular pattern, etc.? and do oncourse messages end up in student inbox or only visible via oncourse? thanks.
Lisa N Melohusky
24:56
Hi Holly, we can try to touch on Zoom for proctoring. It isn’t in the schedule now, but if there is interest we’ll make time
Michael Jabot
24:58
Not sure if we have data on frequency but oncourse emails are connected to their other email
Kimberly A Conti
25:51
Anything you put in the NEWS FORUM will go to their emails, too.
Lisa N Melohusky
26:50
I don’t think we have data on patterns of student email usage, but anything sent through OnCourse News Forum goes to the forum and to the student’s Fredonia’s email.
Jeanne Frerichs
28:56
Can students reply to News Forum posts? If so, does it go to my email?
Lisa N Melohusky
29:38
If you send a message through Quick Mail you can ask OnCourse to include the student’s first name in a particular spot.
Alison Pipitone
30:28
Can you give an example of small stakes feedback? Thanks
Alison Pipitone
32:43
thank you!
Lisa N Melohusky
32:59
OnCourse has two tools, Choice and Questionnaire for low stakes polling. Choice only allows the use of one question. Questionnaire allows multiple questions.
Kimberly Mancino
34:17
It would be good to see Questionnaire - thanks
Holly
36:04
what's the difference btwn questionaire or quiz
Lisa N Melohusky
36:29
Quiz asks for a point value for answering correctly. Questionnaire does not ask for right or wrong or a point value
Holly
39:18
I saw that a lot, but my chat was really active!
Kimberly A Conti
39:57
the nice thing about Zoom is you can SAVE THE CHAT and look at it after the class is over
Lisa N Melohusky
40:22
You can put the chat over the screen share but then your students in the room have a piece of the screen covered by the chat
Kimberly A Conti
40:50
I sometimes just log in on 2 devices so I can keep chat open on one.
Alison Pipitone
41:31
Any recommendations for navigating this with large classes? The commenting, etc
iv
51:02
I guess I don’t follow the video on/learning community connection.
iv
55:34
thanks, Mike. I’ll have to think and read more
iv
55:37
about it
iv
56:03
require it or keep it optional, how....
Michael M Dunham
56:19
I don’t think we can require video
iv
56:35
I see.
David Kinkela
57:45
Don’t think you can make this a requirement, but I think having a conversation and thinking about connections between students could be an important part of our work. Holly’s suggestion of a quick hello for students seems like a good approach.

My students in the spring (using Google Meet and Collaborate) really adapted well to using chat to say ‘ i have a question’ and then they’d mic in
Kimberly Mancino
58:59
I am not seeing the poll- it may be the way I am viewing the screen
mcvicker
59:23
where did you find the poll feature?
Andrea
59:32
I can't see it either -- I couldn't even vote. I will learn more about Zoom tomorrow! :) Andrea
Dawn M Eckenrode
01:00:49
The host view of the poll is in the bottom toolbar, and you can set the poll questions up in advance of the meeting.
Lisa N Melohusky
01:00:53
Polling needs to be turned on in the Zoom meeting settings. Then it becomes an option on the Zoom toolbar where Share Screen is
Andrea
01:00:58
I mean on Wednesday at 9! Andrea
Dawn M Eckenrode
01:01:16
As a participant, it may have been the view you were using that limited your view of the poll
Kimberly Mancino
01:01:37
I found the Discussion forums to be great this spring to engage the students. They had to post first and then reply meaningfully. I learned a great deal about their understanding
Lisa N Melohusky
01:01:57
I will see if I can find more information about Polling and why some users can’t see the poll before Wednesday
mcvicker
01:02:00
Yep I used them extensively even before we went remote
David Kinkela
01:02:24
Yes, very good tool to engage students
Lisa N Melohusky
01:04:18
Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATs) are covered in the OnCourse course. But the direct link to one site on this is at https://cft.vanderbilt.edu/guides-sub-pages/cats/#:~:text=The%20Muddiest%20Point%20is%20one,assignment%2C%20film%2C%20etc.%5D%3F

01:04:56
Thanks….gotta to go.
Lisa N Melohusky
01:05:43
We will stay on the line for 30 minutes and stop the recording to take all other questions
Lisa N Melohusky
01:07:05
If you click on the green question marks in OnCourse they give more information. In this case it will tell you what each question type does
Lisa N Melohusky
01:08:22
Remind the students if 5 is good or bad
Kimberly A Conti
01:10:09
There is a questionnaire in the E&A module... item#6 … you can do that questionnaire to see how it feels as a student
Lisa N Melohusky
01:10:38
When you send a reminder, you can include the link directly to the Questionnaire or other item
